What is Indoor Vermicomposting?
Vermicomposting is composting using worms. It involves "Red Wiggler" earthworms and micro-organisms as decomposers in the essential part of recycling called decomposition. The process, which can be neatly done in a closet or under your kitchen sink, is usually odor and hassle free, requiring little space or time to manage.
Where Can I Vermicompost?
In your apartment, condominium, industrial plant, office, school, home balcony, yard or garage.
What do I feed them?
Feed your worms left over office and home tea, coffee grounds, fruit and vegetable scraps, as well as most kitchen / cafeteria organic waste.
What's in it for me?
Here are just a few reasons for getting involved in vermicomposting:
1) This is ecologically sound recycling of your food waste which reduces stress on the environment, the local landfill, and even your pocket book.
2) Your worms will produce 'worm castings', an extraordinary organic food/mulch for indoor or outdoor plants. Your house plants will 'glow' with appreciation.
3) Year round composting instead of only in the warm months.
4) A cleaner, less polluted, and healthier world environment to hand over to the next generations.
5) Children of all ages love feeding and watching the worms. It's a great educational and environmental tool.
6) You'll get "warm fuzzies" from the folks that learn about your recycling efforts.
